about the broad
The Broad Theater opened March 4, 2016. Prior to becoming a four screen movie theater, this beautiful historic building had many lives, including a boxing gym (The House of Champions,) boat shop, law office and much more. It was originally built in 1924 as a plumbing and heating warehouse. The part of the building housing screens 3 and 4 was built as an oyster processing facility in the 1940s. Photos from this time show the front of the property filled with oyster shells.
As part of the Mid City/Treme neighborhood, we proudly consider ourselves to be a community movie theater, and we regularly host a wide array of community-based events. The Broad is owned & operated by a born & raised New Orleanian who dreamed of an art house, old-school cinema and made it a reality. We love the people of this city and look forward to serving our customers long into the future.
Parking
We have a parking lot in front of the entrance to the venue. Additionally there is plenty of street parking available. HOWEVER, please do not park on the Canal Street side of Lafitte St (side with the City gas station) or in the grass behind the gas station near the brown shipping container, as you may be ticketed or towed. You may also park at AUTO ZONE, along the St Peter side (the side with the sign). We always have a Sheriff on-duty, so if you would like an escort to your car, feel free to ask.
